Thomas asks…

Are there any weight loss tips for teenage girls?

I’m 14,I’m 5″4 and weigh 145 lbs. I want to lose weight but also cut my cravings for snacks.

My family won’t limit me on what I eat, and I eat because I’m hungry, not because I’m bored. Are there any ways to improve my weight that aren’t obvious? I recently quit swimming and I now swim once a week for 1 1/2 hours, and help in the pool for another 1 1/2.

I understand I need to exercise, but running seems so boring and even with music or other people I get bored easily. I’d like to be able to exercise at home, if possible.
I know anorexia is a bad idea, and I’d appreciate not going on some ‘miracle berry’ or a website that isn’t trustworthy.

admin answers:

YES! You can lose weight the right way and feel good about yourself!
Fitness is my job, so let me give you some links to check out. All of these are DVD workout programs that you do at home.

Here are some cardio options:
TurboJam- It’s fun, upbeat and has great music! Http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/Erin4Fitness?bctid=1803292125
Or Hip Hop Abs – http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/Erin4Fitness?bctid=10103956001

If you want something with weight lifting and cardio – try ChaLean Extreme

http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/Erin4Fitness?bctid=25219364001

This program transformed my body! I’m 5’2”, 28 years old and I look better now than when I was in High School.

The best way for you to lose weight is to do a mix of cardio & weights. As a girl you will not get bulky b/c you don’t have the correct hormones for that.
All of these programs come with a nutritional guide as well.
If you have questions, email me at erin4fitness@gmail.com

Good weight loss tips for teenage girls?!?

hElp!

admin answers:

Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta’s, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods. Learn exactly what your food groups are so you then know what puts the weight on and off.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.

If you can jog in between both sessions you’ll burn even more calories. But just do what your body lets you do. Walking is just as good combined with diet control.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets. Like “Slim Right”.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or celery sticks.
Herbal teas, low fat milk and water are your best choice of drinks.

Summary:

Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can best be a protein drink. Like “Slim Right”.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these. Walking as much as you can.
For those that want to build more muscle add some gym work to the above as well.

Technical Stuff:

All our bodies require a specific quantity of a protein level. The protein is taken from the food we eat. If we eat higher concentrations of protein from specific foods like say meat then that level is reached quickly. If we don’t eat enough protein then our body searches for other sources of protein contained within the Carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates only contain a small amount of protein so we end up consuming too much of it just to get out limit of protein. At the same time absorbing too much sugar from the carbohydrates and in turn too much weight. This is how and why we put on weight. Many people over eat because they don’t consume enough protein from the right sources. Then they over compensate by binge eating carbohydrate type foods.

Weight Loss tips for teenage girl?

Hi, I am looking for a diet/exercise plan. I am 5’5 and 140 pounds but a lot of it is muscles in my legs. I still want to slim down my stomach a little. I have really muscular thighs from swimming but I don’t swim anymore so I want to slim them down. What are some good exercises I can to to trim down my stomach and slim my thighs. I’d also like to work my glut.

admin answers:

Concentrate on losing/burning fat. When you lose fat you will achieve the toned look, look slimmer, leaner and overall better. You can try P90X , but P90X costs $125 and it takes 90 days for results. A better, faster and free program is the specialized fat burning program called the Fat X 12 fat burning workout and diet program. It’s a 12 day workout and diet plan you can cycle as many times a you want. The workout videos and diet are free on the Fat X 101 blog. It’s an awesome program to burn fat and tone up! Good luck!

Weight loss tips for teenage girl?

I’m 15, a girl, and I weigh 235. I recently joined the Y and am working out there. I just don’t know how many times a week I should be going? Also, any ideas for a routine I could follow? I also need to know; what are the best foods to lose weight, and what foods should I avoid?
Thanks

admin answers:

Well you don’t want to overdue it, it can ruin your body.
Maybe start of going to the gym 3-4 times a week for an hour doing different types of cardio.
Then when it gets easier, or after a couple weeks, go more or go longer so so your body gets adjusted.
Eat a lot of protein, DON’T cut out carbs from your diet, your young and need them since you are exercising.
Maybe eggs(egg whites are healthiest) in the morning and some toast and fruit.
Avoid sugary cereals and donuts, bagels, pastries (SUGAR)
peanut butter with toast or a banana is good too.
Lunch have like lean meat. Turkey chicken ham. Dont have chips, cookies, sugary granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. Have some fruits and veggies too. Have LIGHT cheese. No mayo, or other fatty dressings.Sometimes Maybe a salad with grilled chicken, veggies and fruit if you want too. No croutons, fatty dressing ONLY LIGHT.
Snack on fruit, nutritional granola bars, Almonds are really good too (the 100-calorie pack) Light popcorn. Low fat yogurt too.
Dinner, DO NOT fry or batter your meat. GRILL. Cookin light oil. Dont butter your pasta or rice, if so, Spray no calorie butter. But dont have that too much. Add veggies, or a small salad.

AVOID high calorie foods. Chips(doritos lays cheetos, etc) avoid icecream, cookies. Try to avoid too much pizza. White bread and white pasta (WHEAT!)

good luck(:

admin answers:

Well if you really wanna loose weight then the best thing to do is cut down on junk food. Instead of eating a cake or anything like that eat a Peace of fruit and going running will help allot too. You should probably run or jog or even walk for maybe a half an hour and that will help too. Join a sport or just go outside more often its better being outside then inside because at least your gonna be doing something active ! Good luck!

Mary asks…

Does P90x work without the diet plan for women?

I already eat pretty good- mostly vegitarian, not too much sugar. I’m 19 and 160lbs. (yes, overweight, but I’m working on it!) I just realized eating good wouldn’t make me loose weight- exercise would, so I decided to try something extreme. Do I have to follow their diet plan? Have other people my ageish had good results with or without it?
Thanks!

admin answers:

I’ve done p90x and followed the diet plan. It’s great for toning up, improving cardiovascular health, increasing flexibility, and improving overall fitness.

But the p90x diet plan is meant to get people “ripped” or “super fit” etc. It is not meant to cause weight loss.

You can, however, combine p90x with a low calorie diet (high carb, low carb, vegetarian, whatever you want) to produce weight loss.

So to answer your question: You will not achieve significant weight loss if you follow the p90x diet plan.

And I just have to say this:

Unless you are a world class athlete, a professional boxer, or Lance Armstrong– it is impossible to lose a significant amount of weight on exercise alone. It MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST be combined with REDUCED CALORIC INTAKE.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a vegetarian, or a vegan, or a carnivore, or whatever– if you do not reduce your overall caloric intake you cannot lose a significant amount of weight (unless you exercise 4 hours per day 6 days a week at maximum cardiovascular capacity).

Ken asks…

What is the best diet plan for women to lose weight?

I need to shed about 35-40 pounds, I am exercising four times a week, but I need a guideline on what to eat, whats good and whats bad.

I play tennis and softball, swim, bike, walk, jog/run, jump rope, and I also do a bit of muscle training. So I need foods that will give me energy for a work out.

Suggestions please.

You can eat chicken…chicken with whole wheat noodles…actually there is a television show call top chef..they did an episode where they had to figure out how a person can eat healthy for less than 10 bucks. They got some REAL healthy recipes online on top chef that you can include for your lunch or dinners. For mornings you should eat oatmeal or a fruit smoothie. Avoid Fast food, coffee, and soda!

Keep at least an hour a day set aside for a quick workout. Start with stretching for 15 minutes and then work into the harder things like crunches, pushups, leg lifts, ect. And when it’s warm out, go for a 1-2 mile jog. If you have a treadmill, then even better!

Keep a healthy diet. Have a nice breakfast with Special K cereal, a glass of milk, and a piece of fruit. Have a nice lunch. Not a big one though, lunches are supposed to be small-sized. Then you can have a big dinner. Keep your diet full of meats, dairy, vegies, and fruit. Throughout the day you should have a water bottle at your side. Have a gronola bar in between each meal, too. (you don’t want to starve)

My motivation is knowing that I look beautiful and healthy.

Hope it helps!

admin answers:

Ok if you exercise in the morning or whenever drink a cup of coffee and eat a banana, one of my ex’s was all obsessed with working out and eating right and he would do this every morning something about it gives you that extra boost to get through the exercises.
___________

1. Drink water, diet soda, coffee/tea, skim milk anything low/no calorie to basically take up most of the space before you eat.

2. Use the saucer size plates when you eat, I do this all the time so I don’t put too much on my plate
or if you really love something eat half of it for lunch and half of it for dinner split the normal amount you would eat in two,
some of that idea is about training your stomach to get used to smaller portions at each sitting after you do it for so long you won’t miss it

3. Look at everything you can cut calories with diet soda instead of reg., skim over 2% or whole, equal instead of sugar,

4. Compare: i can eat ____ for ____ calories or ____ for ____ calories and be more full
watch out for little premade “snacks” that seem all healthy but are full of fat/calories

5. Don’t skip meals if you are a person who is hungry all the time this will just get worse if you skip meals

6. Usually people dont realize that the average person is supposed to be on this 2000 calorie diet but the average person goes over that every day, which would be fine if we then worked off that many calories also

a)start looking at calories for an example you grab a soda it says 120 calories but if you look at the serving size (8oz/120 calories) compared to how much is actually in the 24 ounce bottle you have to multiply it by 3 so now it is 360 calories!!

B)either start exercising or cut down on food or both
the trick is working off whatever you take in, if you dont do much then dont pig out cuz its gonna stay on you

c)you could eat 6 times a day (if you like to eat, some people just feel like they are hungry all the time, this is fine just count your calories then)
example: you cut yourself down to 1500 calories (because you are the average person who eats 2000) haha

ok so you want to have breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack

you can do it like this: 8am, 10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm thats eating every 2 hrs!!

Then you just divide up you calories you have 1500 calories to work with divide by 6 times you want to eat that is 250 calories at each meal or 3 times just breakfast lunch dinner thats 500 calories each meal

7) also people will tell you just drink water, yes water will fill you but if you are hungry drinking some water isnt going to make up for wanting a big fat juicy burger or something so there is nothing wrong with drinking diet soda, skim milk (yes there are calories but they are low/there is nutritional value in milk so its not empty calories) also teas, coffees, even broth (a container of broth cubes or those lipton envelope soups are really good, low calorie and have some good flavors/depending on whats available at your local store)
cuz its something nice and warm in your belly. Im not saying that you suddenly wont want a burger but these things have flavor!! And are more satisfying when on a diet than just water all day all the time (although yes you should also drink water, lol)
8) look for freebees, foods so low in calories that you can snack on them if you really just needed something so you dont throw yourself at the pizza guy like sugarless gum, celery, carrot sticks, sugarless or check the calories on hard candies, even cough drops (anything with taste that you can stick in your mouth, lol)

Nothing bad please.

admin answers:

Don’t let peer pressure make you want to lose weight. As a teen the only reason I wanted to lose weight was because of other girls. Don’t take diet pills at a young age, they are not good for anyone. Walk around your neighborhood 3 or 4 times a week, and don’t eat junk food. If you do eat junk food a lot stop slowly. Start eating less and less of it. Most people eat junk food but limit their intake. That is the point of weight watchers. They eat what they want, but limit how much they eat. You have to exercise. There are no ways around it. I have tried.

I am an overweight teen, a 190 pound 15 year old, and don’t want to go on a traditional diet, but would like to make some healthy lifestyle choices to help with weight loss. Me and my best friend have decided to go to a local gym 4 times a week for 2 hours and swim every friday in the summer. What tips can you give me about easy changes to help me lose weight. PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!

admin answers:

I have lost 40 lbs. In 3 months and I know this will work. Eat small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, eat your last meal 2-3 hours before you go to sleep. Do not starve yourself or your body will go into survival mode where anything you eat will be turned into FAT. This will help you a lot but if you want more results you can exercise 3-4 days a week, include weight training and especially cardio (walking especially running). If you set your mind to lose the weight you will lose it and when you start seeing how good you look you’ll want to keep going.
Good Luck

So ok my son is nine years old, 4′ 6 inchs tall and he weighs 86 pounds. So if anyone have some tips on activities, excerises, recipes, etc… Please help me out. Oh and no im not looking for a quick fix. Thanks
We were eating out about 3 times a week but i cut all of that out about 2 months ago. So now i cook about 4 days a week and the other days its left overs. admin answers:

Losing weight can be tough for a lot of people. While there are a lot of ways to boost your metabolism and burn through calories, did you know that there are foods out there that aid your body in the process? While none of these can be considered a cure-all for fat loss, each has special properties that rev up your metabolism. They can all be easily found at your local supermarket and incorporated into your diet.

Foods that Boost your Metabolism, Boost your Metabolism and loose weight faster!

While none of these foods are sufficient to base your entire diet on, every little bit helps. It’s easy to put ice in your water, add some chiles to your pasta sauce, and make a big salad or stir fry. Just remember, the only way to really lose fat and look good is to exercise and eat right. These are just some ways to give your metabolism the little boost it needs to burn a few more calories!

Rolled Oats
Rolled oats can be made with whey protein and flaxmeal in the morning to spike your metabolism with high quality carbohydrates, protein and good fats. The best time to eat rolled oats is in the morning when your body needs carbohydrates for your brain and body to effeciently function throughout the rest of the day.

Whey Protein
Whey protein is perhaps the best thing for your metabolism since sliced rye bread (yes, we know what the saying is). It is in powder format and comes from cows milk. Whey protein is a complete high quality protein which is great for increasing your metabolism because everytime you ingest protein your body feels full longer and revs your metabolism.

Almonds
Almonds are loaded with good fats, fiber and incomplete protein. You can see the complete nutrient profile here. Since almonds have such great essential fatty acids they help your body raise it’s metabolism just by ingesting them. Obviously ANY FAT has a high calorie content so be sure to have a few nuts every day. You can mix these up with pine, cashews and walnuts as they also contain a very healthy amount of good fats and antioxidants.

Natural Yogurt
Natural yogurt contains many pro-biotic cultures that are necessary for a healthy digestive tract. Yogurt also contains a lot of good fats and some protein. Yogurt can be eaten as a mid-morning snack with a whole apple.

Green Tea
Green Tea is perhaps one of the best morning metabolism boosters you can drink. Not only does it help with cancer risk, weight loss, metabolism it also contains caffeine which helps you focus during the morning. Green tea is found in many fat burning products

Beans
Beans are loaded with fiber and incomplete protein. Fiber helps keep you feeling full longer which helps prevent any binges and lapses in your meal plan.

Spinach

Spinach is loaded with antioxidants which help repair damaged muscles and prevent free radicals from doing their damaging effects to your health. Spinach is known for it’s iron, vitamin C, potassium and magnesium. Myfit.ca wouldn’t suggest ingesting this everyday but every few days would be acceptable.

Eggs
Eggs are one of the highest quality protein sources available. Eggs should be part of everyones diet and is perhaps the best food at speeding up the metabolism.

Turkey
Turkey is one of those lean meats that you should have once or twice a week to switch up your sources of protein. It is a great source of complete protein which helps rev your BMR (basal metabolic rate)

Chicken Breast
Chicken breast should be a staple in anyones diet. It’s lean, easy to make and you can find it cheap at the local supermarket. I prefer the bonless, skinless kind because it takes extra time to skin/debone it.

Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter is one of those hidden health foods. People give it a bad rap due to it’s high caloric content but it contains great essential fatty acids, lots of fibre and some incomplete protein. Instead of putting it on toast, try it on celery as a snack.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Canola Oil
Extra virgin olive oil and canola oil should be used at ALL TIMES when cooking. Since extra virgin olive oil has a lower flash point (it burns at a lower temperature than most oils) it is sometimes pretty messy to use. These oils contain lots of omega 3′s which keep your heart and brain healthy.

Whole grains
Whole grains provide energy that you need throughout the day. Most of the advertised whole grains aren’t actually made with Whole Wheat (and with the germ). Make sure that the product that you buy is not enriched either. The more that you increase your insulin levels the better chance you’re slowing down that metabolism.

Berries
Most people love berries and they’re not such a hidden secret anymore. They are jam packed FULL of antioxidants and is probably one of the most important health foods to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep your metabolism going strong. Frozen Raw Raspberries are usually the easiest to purchase from the frozen section of your local supermarket.

Cayenne Pepper
In the past five years cayenne pepper has been used in fat burners. Why you ask? Well, cayenne has thermagenic (heats up your body) properties. When your body has to cool itself down it requires calories to do so. Thus, creating a fire for your metabolism.

Coffee
Coffee is one of those foods that have been loved and hated by many nutrionists and dieticieans. The most recent research about caffeine and coffee suggest many positive benefits which include: Speeding up your metabolism, heart health, increased concentration and many more.

Water
A recent study by germany researchers suggest that 90 minutes after drinking cold water (H20) will boost your metabolism by 24% over their average metabolism rate. Make sure to drink your water cold. Not only does water keep your body lean it also helps with keeping the flow of nutrients and helps get rid of free radicals. Make sure you’re keeping the water cooler near by.

Steak
Lean red meat has also been through a love and hate relationship with many health professionals; but recent research suggests that lean red meat should be ingested once per week. Red meat contains creatine monohydrate which helps your body use more creatine phosphate (ATP) to help you build muscle. Obviously with the more muscle mass the greater your metabolism.

I hoped this helped. Good Luck ?

I’m currently 5’3″, 163 lbs, measurements of 40-32-42. I would like to get to 125-130lbs. (I wish I knew what my approximate measurements would be at that weight!) But anyway, I have access to a gym within walking distance that also has an area where I can put the kids. The only equipment available in the “Mommy Room” is cardio equipment such as treadmills, step machines and ellipticals. I have some 5 and 10lbs weights at home. I’d like to tone my thighs and upper arms especially.

admin answers:

1 Dietary control and exercise. It’s true what they say – all you need to do is watch what you eat, and expend more energy than you consume. It’s really that simple. You can quit reading this list now, you now know everything you need to know and didn’t need to fork over $500 for the privilege of me telling you the secret of losing weight. You don’t need to read a 4,000 page book, you don’t have to buy a tape series, you don’t need to stay up late at night to watch infomercials to understand this basic premise. It’s 100% true.

2 Change your lifestyle. If you’re calling this a “diet,” then you’re going to gain all the weight back (and more) within a few months of losing it. Diets do not work. Diets are temporary. When you change your dietary lifestyle, however, you’re changing your habits – and you’re putting yourself on track for long-term / continued success and weight maintenance. Don’t ever tell anybody you’re on a diet – ever. I’m speaking from experience, here – a reformed low-carber. Worked out well for a while, but ultimately failed because my entire lifestyle didn’t change (permanently).

3 Join an online support group. In my case, I created my own – FatBlasters. It’s essential that you not feel alone, and reaching out to friends (new or old) is typically a smart move. I just heard about PeetTrainer, but didn’t know about it when I began down the road to weight loss. You have to know that others are out there for moral support – they know things that you couldn’t possibly know, and they’ve probably been “in your shoes” at some point in the past (or present). Share stories, laughter, tears, successes, and failures – share them. There are thousands of communities out there, so keep looking until you find the one that fits you.

4 Take before and after photos. I know it sucks to see yourself as a chunky monkey (sorry, that’s what I called myself – if only to get myself motivated to meet my weight loss goal). However, there’s no easier way to illustrate your progress. The “after” photos are far more fun to capture and share, admittedly. Find yourself on Flickr! It’s good to see yourself how others see you. Do you like how you look? In many ways, Flickr helped me lose weight.

5 Hire a substitute teacher. Don’t reach for the brands you know and love immediately – or without thinking first. Eggs are “good” for you, but consider using egg substitutes instead (in fact, many restaurants will let you order lower calorie foods). There are countless “lower” alternatives for you to try. If something different doesn’t taste good, by all means – find a better substitute, or eat less of the original. In some cases, the substitute may be worse for you than the regular version of the product. The good news is, healthier choices are silently replacing their “normal” counterparts – and they taste just as nice.

6 Start reading labels. I know it sucks, but you have to do it – and there’s no way to avoid this tip. If you don’t know what you’re putting in your mouth, you’re flying blind. Don’t assume, either – triple-check the ingredients list and serving sizes. You must rely on yourself for this; nobody else is going to be able to lose the weight or do the math for you. It’s not that complicated a task, but it will require effort. If nothing else, just pay attention to the calorie count.

7 If you like cheese, you must buy the Laughing Cow brand, and keep several of the suckers in stock at all times. The individually-wrapped wedges make for excellent snacks, and are wonderful when melted over just about anything edible. I’d be careful about straight-up American cheese, though – it’s oil, but not necessarily as good for you as (say) a slice of cheddar would be. I have yet to find something as calorie-light and filling as Laughing Cow (I don’t know how they do it).

8 Tell your family. You’re not going to lose the weight alone, even if you ARE alone in losing the weight. If you’ve got a family at home, talk to them about it – initially, not incessantly. Let them know what you’re going to do, and that you want (and need) their support. If you don’t let them know, you’re running the risk of them inadvertently sabotaging your efforts. You want them to help you get to your goal(s). You want them to share in your happiness when you’ve made it past a certain mark. Who knows? Maybe some of your new habits will rub off on them and they’ll become healthier people, too?

John asks…

Is there an online weight loss community for kids / tween?

My daughter is finally interested in losing some weight and I am so proud of her. She is 10. There are many online groups for adults losing weight – Sparkpeople, Realage, weightwatchers.com etc. Does anyone know of any groups just for kids? I think she would really enjoy talking with other kids going through the same thing – and motivational stories about other kids , tips. etc would probably help her to stay on track and be inspired. Thanks!

Weight loss ideas and tips?

I’m trying to loose weight. Baby weight at that.

I walk the treadmill for 45 minutes and I do the elliptical for 20 minutes a day (minus the weekends which is when I give myself a break).

I’ve been cutting down on the amount of food I eat and I eat A LOT of grilled chicken salads. But I’m getting sick of them.

Anyone know of any good and QUICK low fat or fat free recipes?

And I’m open to any suggestions on weight loss or diets.
I only drink water.

Fat free does not necessary means “low in calories”. There are things which are low in fat but high in calories.
But here goes.
Chicken Soup.

10 ounces skinless chicken breast halves, bone in
1 medium carrot
¼ cup fresh parsley sprigs plus 1 tablespoon minced
1 medium onion
8 whole peppercorns
1 bay leaf
6 cups water

1. Combine all the ingredients except the minced parsley in a large saucepan and simmer for 2 hours.
2. Strain the broth and discard the vegetables. Let the chicken pieces cool, remove any meat that remains on the bones, and discard the bones. Cut the chicken into bite-size pieces and return the chicken to the broth. Refrigerate until cooled.
3. When you’re ready to serve, skim the congealed chicken fat from the top. Reheat and pour into serving bowls. Sprinkle minced parsley on top just before serving.

Soda Bread
This loaf can be on the table minutes from the time you decide you want some warm bread. Usually Irish soda bread is made with whole caraway seeds, but I don’t happen to like them, so this bread is without. If you choose to include them, add with the oat bran and omit the currants.

1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon water
1 1/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup oat bran
1/3 cup currants

1. Coat a nonstick baking sheet with cooking spray. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, brown sugar, and water. Stir well. Over this sift the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the oat bran and currants and mix well but gently.
3. Turn the dough out onto a floured board and sprinkle a little flour over the top. Knead it 5 times and then shape into a flat ball. Place the ball of dough on the prepared baking sheet and with a very sharp knife make a ½-inch deep X on the top of the dough.

Laura asks…

Could someone give me advice on my diet and weight loss progress?

I am a 26 y/o w/m at 6’3″. My weight was up to 305 lbs back in 2007. I have had a moderate weight problem my entire life. I started the Atkins diet in July 2007 and lost about 80 lbs. As soon as I stopped dieting, I fell right back into my old habits and got back up to 266 lbs. I started a low calorie diet in April 2008 and I am down to 199 lbs today.

My job entails walking laps around a 200,000 Sq Ft supercenter for several hours at a time (Usually between 5 and 10). I use a low estimate for my speed (3.0 MPH). My primary function is to catch shoplifters, so I have frequent adrenaline rushes, and I am forced to move and stretch my body into several unique positions throughout the day. I feel like I am getting a sufficient amount of exercise at work. I would estimate that I walk about 5 miles on a slow day at work. I do light calisthenics about 3 times per week, normally just crunches and stretching.

My diet has been pretty strict. I am using the site fitday dot com to track what I eat and make sure that my daily calorie balance is as precise as possible. My average daily consumption since mid May has been about 1400. I feel healthy, satisfied, and I eat when I am hungry. I have found several ways to slash calories from my diet. For example, I have found 71 cal wheat tortillas (taco size) that are great for wraps. I use very low cal and low fat lunch meats and fat free cheese for sandwiches and wraps. I eat a lot of fruit. The 100 calorie snack packs have been great for snacking. Ground beef has been virtually eliminated and replaced with lean ground turkey. My wife has really jumped on board with the healthy eating because my daughter is about to start eating table food. We have been using a lot of Lean Cuisine meals for quick lunches and breakfasts. In the event that we do get to cook a meal, we purchased a portion scale that has made it possible to be very accurate with serving sizes. I ALWAYS make sure to eat breakfast. I occasionally have to skip lunch, but I make a valiant effort not to.

From the results I have achieved, I am confident that I am not making too many mistakes. I change things up quite often to keep my metabolism on it’s toes. The only obvious mistake I see is not changing my exercise routine up. That is because I moderately injured my ankle back in May in a fight with a shoplifter. That has eliminated most strenuous physical activity. We don’t have the money for a gym membership, and I do not have access to any weight training equipment. So, there is my background.

Now for the question. Over the last couple weeks, my weight loss has hit a pretty big plateau. I have only lost about 6 lbs in the last two weeks. I am currently experimenting with eating a couple hundred more calories a day. Is it normal for the progress to slow so dramatically? Is there anything that I can do to improve my results? My goal weight is 180 lbs. That is about mid range BMI for a healthy weight. The NHI says my ideal weight is about 175 lbs. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how I can integrate some type of weight training into my routine in an inexpensive way. I am very concerned that I am losing more muscle mass than I am comfortable with. I still have very noticeable love handles. What can I do about that? How does body fat redistribute throughout ones body during periods of weight loss? I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read all of this and respond lol.
I started the low cal diet in April 2009, not 2008….Sorry about that.

admin answers:

Wow, your experience sounds a lot like mine! I used fitday.com on and off for five years, along with yo-yo dieting (unlike you I wasn’t smart at first)… Then last year I lost 45 pounds in three months by making a lifestyle change, and I have since kept the weight off.

While you said you are eating breakfast, maybe some of these tips will help you get over your plateau: Eat less, move more. Eat four to six small meals a day with breakfast being the largest and dinner being the smallest. Eat the majority of your calories early in the day. Avoid sodas and junk foods.

Best of luck. It’s always awesome to hear about people using portion control instead of diet pills to lose weight.

Wanting to lose weight, looking for lowfat recipes and advice?

I am about 30 lbs overweight and am looking to lose that weight. I have always been a skinny girl but since college, i have “blossumed” in a non-flowery way! My boyfriend and I cook every night but have run out of ideas for lowfat easy to cook meals for college students to manage ( time, cost of food, understanding of instructions etc..) I started my diet this week and have lost 2 lbs so far but already bored to death with veggies and im in desperate need of CHOCOLATE!

I was wondering if any of you have any advice for quick-er weight loss, food tips, meal ideas, snack ideas, personal experience and so on. Im ready to get this weight off because i cannot see myself in a bathing suite right now.. yucky!

Also, i am an extreme chocoholic and sugar craver, its been HARD giving it up, hard as in to the point of crying! hah.. could anybody make my dreams come true and make chocolate fat free and sugar free? HA!

Thanks for the help! I need all the info i can get!

admin answers:

The secret is acknowledging the true purpose of food as fuel rather than entertainment. Focus on protein, fats, and carbohydrates and learn about each of them. A little bit of research online will teach you a lot. Remember, don’t diet; change your eating lifestyle. Doing so will change your life for the better. For the exercise, consider it a priority to include it into your routine.

Anyway, if you want it simple, here it is in ten steps:
1. Protein is good…eat plenty (about 30% of your caloric intake)
2. Fats are good and bad…know the difference
3. Saturated and trans fats are the bad ones – limit these
4. Poly- and mono-unsaturated fats are good – don’t be afraid of them
5. Carbohydrates are good and bad…know the difference
6. Fibers and complex carbs are the good ones – eat these (about 40% of your caloric intake)
7. Sugars and simple carbs are the bad ones – limit these, particularly late in the day (stay away from sodas and chips!)
8. Drink water – lots and lots and lots of water. It’s the only drink you need. Anything else is either wasted or simply bad for you
9. Eat 4-6 “meals” a day to boost your metabolism.
10. A meal is defined as a portion of a low-fat, protein rich entree, a portion of veggies for vits/mins, and a portion of complex carbs. (You can get these combined as a health shake)

For exercise, it’s even simpler:
1. 4-6 hours per week
2. 45-90 min each day you exercise
3. Do aerobic exercise (20-40 min) every day you exercise
4. Work abdominals every day you exercise (between sets makes it easy)
5. Do chest and triceps exercises on one day
6. Do back and biceps exercises on a different day
7. Do legs and shoulder exercises on a different day
8. Do your exercises in sets (i.e. 3 times with 6-12 repetitions each)
9. Keep a record of what you do to measure progress.
10. When your progress stalls (called “plateau”), switch up your routine.

James asks…

My friends amazing weight loss (80lbs in 4 months) is her plan viable?

My friend recently lost a lot of weight like about 80lbs in like 16 weeks losing about 5lbs a week. She is 31 and 5 foot 5 inches tall and started at 220lbs and went down to 140lbs she hope to lose another 5lbs and then just focus on maintenance and toning. I have seen her in her under ware and apart from a couple of tiny stretch marks on her tummy she looks great no loose skin etc.
When I asked her how she did it she sent me this (Cut and paste from her email to me):
My weight loss plan was real simple. I’m a vegetarian but before I ate a lot of ready meals and was always hungry so snacked on sweets and pastries, cheese and fizzy drinks to keep going etc. I changed my diet so that I ate all home cooked food, all fresh veggies, fruit, home baked wholemeal bead, brown rice, lentils, yogurt etc I had lot’s of salads and indian dahls etc and supplemented my diet with a good quality multivitamin and the odd protein shake to help with muscle repair. I drank lot’s of water and green tea. My total calories averaged about 1800 a day. I had trouble eating it all sometimes as it seemed so much!
As for working out I did about an hour to an hour and a half of cardio everyday 6 days a week (which is a lot considering I was total couch potato before, but I love it now) mixing it up to keep my body guessing so one day I’d do interval training and the next day I’d do a long moderate intensity walk on the treadmill at an incline. When I got fitter I did spinning classes, which were tough but made a big diffrence. I also did resistance training with free weights three times a week about 30 minutes each time. I made sure I got lot’s of sleep and had a rest day every week. I tend to put on muscle quickly so I think that really helped me to drop the weight fast so resistance training is not optional.
I used the Sauna at the gym a couple of times a weel as well, which I think helped and had a course of 3 full body wraps to help inch loss and skin tighening as well as using body brushing and self massage with oils every day to keep my skin nice.
Simple but tough, consistancy was the key!

—End of her email —-

Now I need to lose weight as well but it just seems unrealistic to me that she lost 80lbs in four months doing just the above and she has no lose sagging skin, even her boobs look nice. What do you think is this really possible? Do you think she is lying or was she just very lucky to have lost so much weight so quick?

admin answers:

It’s possible. When you are that heavy – the weight tends to drop off quite quickly at the beginning.

You can do it if you really put the effort in. The exercise is the most important. If you just diet then you probably will get stretchmarks and sagging skin. You need to try and keep everything tight.

Good luck

Your Questions About Weight Loss Tips For Men

Betty asks…

Looking for info on weight loss tips for men?

Does anyone know a real site with weight loss tips for men?

admin answers:

Here’s a few tips that work for me:
I spend a long time in front of a computer screen. Often I just stare at the monitor for up to 15 seconds while a page load or a document gets printed or whatever it is that the computer is doing.
When this is happening I lift my hands up over my head and then bring them down. I keep on doing this until the computer has finished whatever it is doing and it requires some input.,. From me.
I do similar exercises like getting up from the chair and sitting down again. I sometimes might be standing up and might type a few sentences while standing.
Combine this with drinking only water and I am doing something to lose weight. It is not much but doing it all the time it does help in losing weight.
I might swap this sometimes. I might decide that I will not do the arm exercise for a week but that week I will get off the lift two floor below and walk up the last two floors.
So long as when I go to bed at night I can say that that day I have done something extra to burn some weight, I am happy.

Laura asks…

good weight loss tips for men?

admin answers:

The body is designed to walk. Research shows that slow, rhythmic movement exercise, such as walking, resets your body’s weight set point and creates a thin, lean body. A one-hour walk everyday will change your body dramatically in as little as one month.

Eat a big breakfast
It is interesting to note that 80 percent of the people who are overweight eat a small breakfast or none at all. Eighty percent of thin people eat a large breakfast. Your breakfast should consist of as much as you want of the following items. Everything listed should be organic. Apples, pears, berries, kiwis, pineapples, grapefruit, plums, peaches, prunes, figs, rye bread, raw butter (raw means not pasteurized and not homogenized), raw milk, plain yogurt (this means no sugar or fruit), wild smoked salmon, beef in any form as long as it’s organic, chicken in any form as long as it’s organic, lamb in any form as long as it’s organic, tuna, sardines, eggs, tomatoes, peppers, salsa, celery, carrots, any vegetable, potatoes in limited amounts, coffee in limited amounts made with pure water not tap water with raw milk or cream and raw evaporated sugar cane juice or honey as a sweetener, real tea (not tea in tea bags).

Eat a huge salad at lunch & dinner
I don’t care if your lunch is a cheeseburger, French fries, and a pint of ice cream, add to it a big, huge salad and eat that first. You’ll be amazed that you lose weight. The salad can contain anything you like as long as it is only vegetables and they are organic. The salad dressing should be organic olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice, or organic vinegar. If you really want to speed the weight loss process use organic apple cider vinegar. Add some organic sea salt, fresh ground pepper, or some garlic for taste.

As you are 50 years old and not conducive to exercise, easy and effective weight loss measures need to be opted. Walking can be the effective method to reduce undesired fats, which are deposited in the body parts. It burns the undesired calories present in the body. Fruits and vegetables, which are full of carbohydrates, fiber and water, play a vital role in reducing body weight by burning fats, which usually get deposited under the belly and thighs.

What’s some good weight loss tips? What should I do for a routine?

So I want to lose weight now, after putting it off thinking I don’t have to. I am 16, 5’7″ and weigh 175. The part I want to cut down is my stomach and, well to put it simple I have man boobs. What are some excersises I can do to cut down my weight, and what are some tips to help me? I don’t even know where to start when it comes to this, but I need to do it. Do you have any advice?

admin answers:

Mostly cardio. Start out walking and/or biking, then jogging, then add running. The only way to lose it is to do cardio. That will cut down the fat. At the same time, try doing bench presses and other chest exercises with dumbbells.

Try something like this… Rest every Sunday. Do upper body every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Monday – walk 1 mile
Wednesday – walk 2 miles
Friday – walk 2 miles

Monday – walk 2 miles
Weds – walk 3 miles
Friday – walk 3 miles

Monday – walk 3 miles
Weds – walk half mile, jog 1 mile, walk half mile
Friday – walk half mile, jog 1 mile, walk half mile

Monday – walk half mile, jog 1 mile, walk half mile
Weds – jog 1.5 miles, walk half mile
Friday – jog 1.5 miles, walk half mile

Starting the next week, add walking one mile (no more than that) to your upper body on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.

admin answers:

Good Luck ?

Doesn’t it make you sad to see kids as young as 9 asking for weight loss tips on here?

admin answers:

Yes it is, but there is no doubt that there are now many very overweight pre-teens. I have to say me experience of overweight pre-teen management in the UK has been very disappointing. There is little doubt that although calorie intake and appropriate diet is important, the major problem is lack of calorie expenditure.

George asks…

Can you give some good workout/weight loss tips for a mother of 2 young kids?

K, about me and my fitness level/health: I’m 27 and have had 2 kids, ages 3.5 years and 1 year. I am on ADD meds that make my heart rate slightly higher than “normal” but it’s not a huge problem.

Jenny asks…

Is there an online weight loss community for kids / tween?

My daughter is finally interested in losing some weight and I am so proud of her. She is 10. There are many online groups for adults losing weight – Sparkpeople, Realage, weightwatchers.com etc. Does anyone know of any groups just for kids? I think she would really enjoy talking with other kids going through the same thing – and motivational stories about other kids , tips. etc would probably help her to stay on track and be inspired. Thanks!

Good weight loss tips for women with PCOS?

I am 14 years old and have PCOS. As a result of this i am overweight. I have been eating healthily and taking part in regular exercise for 3 years now and the weight is still not shifting! Any one got any tips for weight loss? This would help loads :)

admin answers:

Hi Emma.I am 20 years old and I also have PCOS and have been overweight. My mom is a personal fitness trainer and nutritionist and has helped me out.So I’ll tell you what she taught me. Eat 6 meals a day. 3 meals with 3 small snacks in between. Your body weight and age determine how many calories you should have per day and intern how many calories you should have per meal. I would guess around 1500 calories a day judging by your age. Eat balanced meals consisting of proteins(fish, chicken, and egg whites are good sources of protein), carbs, and vegetables (not starchy vegetables like corn for example. They count as carbs.) NEVER go on low carb diets. The lack of carbs is replaced by water intake which means as soon as you begin to up your carb intake again you will gain it all back. Stay away from soft drinks, caffienated drinks, alcohol, and sugary drinks.Drink LOTS of water. Also stay away from sugary foods.I recommend greek yogurt which is low in fat, calories, and sugar.Mix it with a little organic granola and it makes a great snack.I also like raw baby carrots. This healthy eating habit shouldn’t even be called a diet.It should become part of your lifestyle. As for exercise start slowly because you have to work your body up to being able to take on a tougher workout. For cardio start with a quick paced walk for thirty minutes. After about a week quicken your pace to a jog and after another week try running. If you feel like your not ready to run yet continue jogging but jog for 45 minutes instead of 30.An important thing to remember is to keep pushing yourself more and more in your workouts.Slowly add more time or a faster pace or more resistance. If your workout is at a stand still, your weight loss will be at a stand still as well.Your weight and age also indicate what your heart rate should be when you are working out. This is a good reference website to go to in order to learn how to calculate yout target heart rate.http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Your-Target-Heart-Rate.A good exercise plan always consists of both cardio and weight training. Cardio without weight training results in flabby untoned tissue! If you are training alone I recommend staying away from large weight machines. You may hurt yourself. Stick with the small plastic dumbells. In fact I recommend yoga and pilates which really work your core as well as multiple muscle zones in your body and are great for toning.Keep in mind that 30 minutes of exercise a day is required to see significant changes.Unless you live an extremely active lifestyle the activities of normal daily life do not burn enough calories for weight loss.Supplement your eating and exercise with a daily multi-vitamin. I also take CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acids. They reduce fat and preserve muscle tissue, but purchase them at a legitimate store rather than online.Online offers are usually scams ,and pills sold online by sketchy sellers can be dangerous. Also talk to your doctor first to be sure they are safe for someone your age. I recommend keeping your doctor informed throughtout your weight loss process just to be sure you are being as safe and healthy as possible. I have lost 20 pounds(9.08 kilograms) in about 3 months using this process.Good luck and stay motivated! =D

best weight loss tips for women ?

admin answers:

When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don’t eat wheat then you don’t eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don’t eat junk food, and you don’t eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It’s not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym – a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

Chris asks…

Do you have any good weight loss tips for a woman 59 years old?

I need to lose 70 lbs and have lost 12 so far the old fashioned way by diet and exercise. It’s going very slow even though I have dropped sugar, dairy and all processed food. I brisk walk an hour everyday and drink lots of water. What else can I do to speed this up?

admin answers:

Dance. There’s fairly good evidence that not only does it burn calories and most people are more willing to keep it up compared to gym-type exercise, but it delays loss in mental acuity, helps prevent falls and increases bone density in hips and legs. Ballroom dancing, tap, belly dance, etc…

Ruth asks…

SHOULD WHITE WOMEN DISCUSSED THEIR BOWEL MOVEMENTS WITH OTHERS FOR WEIGHT LOSS TIPS?

Since nearly 60% of white womne are oevrwight or obese, they shoukld focus on helping OTHER WHITE WOMEN LOSE WEIGHT. Since dieting is a huuge result, THEY SHOULD TAKE TIME, TALK ABOUT, AND MAYBE EVEN SHOW, other women their bowel movements, talk about what their ate, how it came it, its characeteristics, and everything as WEIGHT LOSS ADVICE.

Of course, they can do it one on one, in a private area, under confidential terms, AND STRICT GUARANTEES taht the knowledge, insight, and perspectives gain from such will be used as way to used such BMs as indicator as how thier body is processing, rissing, and dealing with the food it take

Of course, there will be many differnt opinions after the discusion, visual observations, and like, BUT IF WEIGHT LOSS CAN BE HELPED BY learning such, WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA

ANY IDEAS

What are some tips for weight loss for teens?

Good Luck
